Introduction: Peptic ulcer is one of the most commonly diagnosed gastric diseases in people of all ages and regardless of gender. Peptic ulcers occur due to unbalanced production of stomach acid and pepsin. This excessive acid production is triggered by several bad habits such as consuming caffeine-containing drinks such as tea and coffee, drinks with high alcohol content and also active smoking. Bitter melon leaves (Momordica charantia L.) contain phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, tannins and saponins that can protect the gastric mucosa. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of anti-gastric ulcer 96% ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves and what is the effective dose. Method: the research was laboratorik experimentally by giving bitter melon leaf extract to male mice. The dose of bitter melon leaf ethanol extract used in this study was 100mg/kgBB, 200mg/kgBB and 400mg/kgBB. The positive control group used sucralfate and the negative control used cmc Na. each group amounted to 5 mice. The first day was given 96% ethanol with a volume of 0.14 ml, days 2, 3, 4, given bitter melon leaf ethanol extract orally with a volume of 0.2 ml, on the 5th day the mice were dissected and observed the number of ulcers and ulcer diameter. Results: a dose of 400mg / kgBB as a percentage of ulcer healing, more effective than doses of 100mg / kgBB and 200mg / kgBB. Statistically doses of 400mg / kgBB and 200 mg / kgBB are more effective than doses of 100mg / kgBB. Conclusion: 96% ethanol extract of bitter melon leaves is effective as an anti-ulcer, with the most effective dose of 400mg/kgBB. (Momordica charantia L.) contain phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics, tannins and saponins that can protect the gastric mucosa.
